NAR: Stimulus Plan Should Boost Home Sales

NAR estimates that the recently enacted economic stimulus plan, along with lower interest rates and other mortgage relief measures, could help trigger 900,000 additional home sales in 2009 compared to conditions without the stimulus package. The association also expects home inventory to fall below an 8-month supply by the end of the year.

Harvard to raise tuition by 3.5 percent

Cambridge: Harvard University will raise tuition by 3.5 percent for undergraduate students this fall, the university said Wednesday.
Harvard President Drew Faust wrote in a letter posted online Wednesday that tuition would be increased to $33,696 per year. The total costs of attendance will reach $48,868 per year.

MIT’s tuition, fees to rise 3.8 percent

Cambridge: The Massachusetts Institute of Technology will raise tuition an fees for the 2009-2010 academic year by 3.8 percent to $37,782, the college’s smallest increase in eight years.
The increase comes as drops in MIT’s endowment have forced the school to slash its budget.

Cambridge Mortgage Rates Keep Falling

The average 30-year mortgage rate in Cambridge stood at 5.31 percent last week, a 4.2 percent drop from the week prior, according to online mortgage tracker Zillow.

Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase Suspend Foreclosures

JPMorgan Chase and Citigroup today announced a moratorium on mortgage foreclosures through next month. JPMorgan’s foreclosure freeze will be good through March 9, while Citigroup’s will last until March 12.
