Google’s grist for the Cambridge rumor mill

September 17, 2009 by Elad Bushari · 1 Comment

Rumor hath it that Internet search monolith Google Inc. is weighing the acquisition of Cambridge-based Brightcove Inc. According to a report on the Boston Business Journal Web site, Google is reportedly considering paying between $500 million and $700 million for the Internet TV service.

Mark Glaser, the executive editor of PBS MediaShift and Idea Lab reported the story, citing a source “with knowledge of the deal,” the BBJ reported. He speculated that buying Brightcove would give YouTube an entry into paid video service with many traditional media company clients.
